PHEC NI is a multidsciplinary initiative aimed at bringing prehospital professionals and practitioners together with the common goal of providing a forum for continuing professional development; ultimately to improvie the delivery of emergency care and transport of acutely ill or injured patients through multidisciplinary interaction in a professional and social setting. Each month a case will be presented to the forum with a guideline based discussion on management points and any recent updates on the topic presented. This will be followed by a short presentation on definitive emergency management in the emergency department or theatres. Light refreshments are usually provided. It is very important to stress that this initiative is strictly a non-profit event. Would all those interested please note the following. Venue costs are minimised by the co-hosting with QUB Scrubs Admission fee does not even cover the full cost of refreshments at this stage. Sponsorship has been sought from various prehospital product suppliers. If in the future excess funds arise from adequate sposnorship and admission fees then any excess monies will be kindly donated to BASICS NI A detailed record any income / expendiature / BASICS NI donations will be kept and available for public inspection on request.

Organ donation: Incident to recipientMany people are familiar with the increasing need for organ donation. However, not many are familiar with the range of organs and clinical contexts in which organs become available for donation. This months talk will explore the journey from incident to recipient to increase awareness of the delicate practical and ethical issues surrounding treatment of patients who are or may potentially be donors. This talk will certainly evoke lively debate and deeper consideration of the implications of treating a patient who may be or is a good organ donor candidate. Obviously the overiding principle of preservation of life prevails, but, as always, real life always adds a few extra complications to be considered along the way. I look forward to meeting you in the MBC LT2 on Thursday 27th June Sandy Site administrator |
