A career in the ambulance service provides a lot of experience in prehospital emergency care.  Paramedics and EMTs are regularly exposed to the adverse environment out side hospital and are used to dealing with undifferentiated pathology and recognising acutely unwell patients out of hospital.  Protocols are improving and more therapeutic options are being opened up for paramedics.
